Padma Awards have been announced on the occasion of Republic Day. This time, it has been announced to give Padma Vibhushan to 10 celebrities, 10 to Padma Bhushan and 102 to Padma Shri. Among the recipients of the Padma Vibhushan is the name of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The Home Ministry announced these awards on Monday. Padma Vibhushan is the second highest civilian award in the country, honoring the longest serving Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Japan in the category of public affairs. S. was a popular musician and playback singer of Tamil Nadu. P. Balasubramanian will receive this honor posthumously.
Indian-American physicist Narendra Singh Kapani, best known for his work on fiber optics, has also been posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan. Besides him, noted cardiologist Belle Monappa Hegde of Karnataka, Indian Islamic scholar and peace activist Maulana Waheeduddin Khan, known for writing a commentary on the Quran, Indian archaeologist and historical revisionist of Hindutva B. B. Lal and sculptor Sudarshan Sahu are among the other Padma Vibhushan recipients.
He got Padma Bhushan
Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, politician and former cabinet minister late Ram Vilas Paswan, former Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel and Indian Islamic scholar Kalbe Sadiq are among the 10 Padma Bhushan awardees to be posthumously awarded the third highest civilian award.
The awards are given in various disciplines - arts, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service, among others. This time, 29 women are among the awardees. The awards are presented by the President of India during a grand ceremony, which is held at Rashtrapati Bhavan around March or April each year.
Padma Shri Award
Padma Shri Award has been given to 102 people including former Goa Governor Mridula Sinha, British film director Peter Brooke, Father Wallace (posthumously), Professor Chaman Lal Sapru (posthumous). Nicolas Kazanas of Greece has been given the Padma Award for his work in the field of literature.
