10 crore people in India are troubled by sleeplessness, know how 'dangerous' this problem is

10 crore people in India are suffering from sleeping disorders. Of these, 5 crore people have severe symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Due to this disease, obesity is increasing in men and women.

Sleep Apnea Disorder:  Due to lack of sleep many types of health related problems start occurring. According to the report of AIIMS New Delhi, about 10 crore people in India are suffering from sleeping disorder. The problem of obstructive sleep apnea has been found in them. This is a disease in which breathing is not proper during sleep and snoring also occurs. Due to which sleep gets disturbed. About 11% of adults in the country are affected by this disease. In this data prepared from 6 research in the last two decades, AIIMS found that obstructive sleep apnea disease is seen more in men than women. This affects their work also. Due to this the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease is also increasing. This research report has been published in the Journal of Sleep Medicine. What does AIIMS Delhi report say

This research has been done by Professor Dr. Anant Mohan in the Department of Pulmonology at AIIMS New Delhi. He told that according to research, 10 crore people in India are suffering from sleep disorders. Of these, 5 crore people have severe symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Due to this disease, obesity is increasing in men and women. In severe cases the problem may worsen. Due to OSA, snoring continues till late night and sleep is not complete. Because of this, one feels sleepy during the day and work gets affected. This can also be harmful for mental health. Because of this there is also a risk of stroke, high blood pressure and metabolic disease. 

Who is more at risk of obstructive sleep apnea?

According to Dr. Anant Mohan, older people i.e. the elderly are at greater risk from obstructive sleep apnea. Due to lack of sleep, other parts of the body are also affected. Apart from the elderly, this disease can also trouble obese people. Therefore, there should be no delay in seeing a doctor in case of this disease.
