America's Pentagon's 80-year record is about to collapse. The world's largest office building is here, but Gujarat's face will take away this title from it. The city of Surat is known for producing 90 percent of the world's diamonds. The world's tallest office building is ready in this city, which will be known as Surat Diamond Bourse. It was inaugurated recently. It will be a hub for over 65,000 diamond professionals including polishers and traders.
According to a CNN report, with more than 7.1 million square feet of space, it will surpass America's Pentagon as the world's largest office building. With its impressive 15-storey complex spread over 35 acres, the Surat Diamond Bourse has been grabbing attention for its unique design.
It took 4 years to build this building. However, due to Kovid, there was an obstacle in the construction work. Surat Diamond Bourse will be ready to welcome people in November. The official inauguration is scheduled for later this year and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
These are the special features of the building
The Surat Diamond Bourse has over 4,700 work spaces, which can also serve as small diamond-cutting and polishing workshops. It includes 131 lifts as well as food, gym and conference facilities for the employees.
Praising this huge building, PM Modi said, Surat Diamond Bourse reflects the dynamism and development of Surat's diamond industry. It is also a testimony to the entrepreneurial spirit of India. It will serve as a center for trade and cooperation, which will further boost it. This will create our economy and employment opportunities. It is said that 32 billion rupees were spent in making this building.
Project CEO, Mahesh Gadhvi explained the benefits of Surat Diamond Bourse. He emphasized on how this would save thousands of people from daily travel to Mumbai by train for business purposes. He described it as a better option for conducting diamond trading activities.
The Surat Diamond Bourse was built by the Indian architecture firm Morphogenesis, which won an international design competition. The size of the project was determined on the basis of demand. All the offices were bought by diamond companies before construction started.
