The festival of Rakshabandhan has special significance in Hinduism. This festival is considered a symbol of unbreakable love between brothers and sisters. Raksha Bandhan is celebrated every year on the full moon day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Sawan. On this day sisters tie Raksha Sutra on the wrist of their brothers and pray to God for their long life. At the same time, brothers promise to protect their sisters for life. Rakhi is not just a silk thread but a brother's promise to his sister to protect her. When will Raksha Bandhan be celebrated this year and when is the auspicious time to tie Rakhi, know here.

When will the festival of Raksha Bandhan be celebrated?

According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on 30 August this year. But due to the shadow of Bhadra on Rakshabandhan, there is confusion among people about tying rakhi. Tying Rakhi in Bhadra is not considered auspicious. Bhadra will start from 10.59 am on August 30 till 9.02 pm. Celebrating the festival of Rakshabandhan is prohibited during this time. That's why it will be auspicious to tie Rakhi only after the end of this Nakshatra.

What is the auspicious time to tie Rakhi

This year, the full moon date will start from 10:59 am on 30th August and will remain till 7:5 am on 31st August. On the morning of 31st August, the shadow of Bhadra would also have ended. That's why this time would be good for tying Rakhi. Rakhi will not be tied on August 30 in the morning due to Bhadra. On the other hand, if you want to tie Rakhi on August 30, then the auspicious time will start after 9.15 pm. Festivals can be celebrated at this time. However, Rakhi can be tied on both 30 and 31 August i.e. on both the days. But keep in mind that on August 31, the auspicious time for tying Rakhi will be only till 7.5 minutes in the morning.

How to tie rakhi to brother

On the day of Raksha Bandhan, both brother and sister should fast. Before tying Rakhi, sisters should prepare a puja plate in which Roli, rice, aarti, sweets etc. should be kept. Before tying rakhi on brother's wrist, sisters apply tilak with roli and rice on his forehead and then tie rakhi on right hand, feed him sweets and pray for his long life and progress by performing aarti. If you are tying rakhi to your elder brother, take his blessings by touching his feet. Along with this, instead of Rakhi, the brother should give a gift to the sister.
