Pakistan's team came out to play ahead of 48 runs on the loss of 3 wickets on the fifth and last day. After which Pakistan achieved the target of 131 runs by losing 6 wickets in 32.5 overs. Imam-ul-Haq, while batting brilliantly, scored a half-century and scored an unbeaten 50 in 84 balls with the help of four fours and a six. Apart from this, Saud Shakeel scored 30 runs and captain Babar Azam scored 24 runs.
In the second innings for Sri Lanka, Prabhat Jayasuriya took 4 wickets and Ramesh Mendis took 1 wicket.
Sri Lanka scored 279 runs in the second innings after trailing by 149 runs in the first innings. In which Dhananjay de Silva (82 runs) and opening batsman Nishan Madushka (52) scored half-centuries.
Host Sri Lanka won the toss and batting first scored 312 runs in the first innings. In response, after a poor start, Pakistan came back with a bang and scored 461 runs on the basis of Shakeel's double century. Shakeel scored an unbeaten 208 in 361 balls with the help of 19 fours. He became the first player from Pakistan to score a double century in Tests in Sri Lanka.
The second and final Test match of the series will be played from July 24 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
