MLC 2023: San Francisco Unicorns beat Los Angeles Knight Riders by 21 runs, Matthew Wade played a stormy inning

The eighth match of Major League Cricket tournament was played between Los Angeles Knight Riders and San Francisco Unicorns at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas on Wednesday (July 19) which was won by Aaron Finch captained Unicorns by 21 runs. This is Unicorns' second win in 3 matches in this tournament, while Knight Riders' performance in this tournament has been very poor so far and the Knight Riders team led by Sunil Narine has lost three matches in a row.

Talking about this match, batting first, the Unicorns scored a mammoth score of 212 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs and put a tough challenge in front of the Knight Riders. Opener Matthew Wade played a key role in helping the Unicorns reach this score. Wade played a fiery inning of 78 runs in 41 balls with the help of 7 fours and 5 sixes. Apart from Wade, Marcus Stoinis and Corey Anderson also contributed 37 and 39 runs.

At the same time, Adam Zampa took the maximum 3 wickets in bowling for Knight Riders. After this, when the Knight Riders team started chasing 212 runs, they needed a fiery start and the pair of Unmukt Chand and Jason Roy got their team off to a good start by adding 55 runs in the first 4.4 overs. Jason Roy played a blistering inning of 45 runs in 21 balls in the powerplay itself but Haris Rauf clean bowled him and gave the Unicorns their first breakthrough.

After this, Nitish Kumar also played an inning of 31 runs in 23 balls. But the partnership between him and Unmukt Chand did not see the pace that the Knight Riders needed. When the partnership between these two broke, the hopes of the Knight Riders were also shattered as Riley Russo and Jaskaran Malhotra were dismissed after scoring 8 and 7 runs. In the end, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine tried hard to steer their team's boat but they too could not save their team from defeat. Russell remained unbeaten till the end scoring 42 runs in 26 balls while Narine also remained unbeaten till the end scoring 28 runs in 17 balls. Due to these two, the Knight Riders were able to reach a little closer to 212. In the end, the Knight Riders team was able to score only 191 runs in the stipulated 20 overs and lost the match by 21 runs.
