Diabetes is such a disease which is slowly engulfing a large population of the country. In India, the number of patients of this disease has crossed 100 million. It is a matter of concern that most people do not get to know about the symptoms of diabetes at the right time. During this, this disease continues to flourish in the body and damages many other organs as well. Almost all the important organs of the body are affected by this disease. In such a situation, this disease also becomes fatal.
Let us tell you what other diseases can be caused due to diabetes. To know this, we spoke to Dr. Swapnil Jain, endocrinologist in Delhi and Dr. Sumit Sharma, HOD, Department of Urology, Sanar International Hospital.
These diseases are caused by diabetes
1. Heart diseases
Dr. Swapnil Jain explains that diabetes affects the function of the heart. The increased level of sugar in the body causes heart attack and heart stroke. This happens because, due to diabetes, blood pressure also increases. Due to this the heart has to work harder to pump the blood. Because of this, the nerves of the heart get affected and there is a risk of getting an attack. In such a situation, it is very important to keep the sugar level under control.
2. Kidney failure
Dr. Sumit Sharma told that diabetes directly affects the kidney. The increased sugar level reduces the filtering capacity of the kidney. This affects kidney function. If the sugar level is increasing for a long time, there is a risk of kidney failure. In this situation, there may be a need for dialysis or kidney transplant.
3. Eye disease
Dr. Jain explains that due to diabetes eye disease also occurs. This is called diabetic retinopathy disease. In this disease, there is damage to the retina of the eyes. Small nerves present in the retina get damaged. In many cases, due to this, there is a danger of loss of eyesight. If there is no sugar level control, then within a few years its effect starts appearing on the eyes.
4. Skin disease
Some patients of diabetes may also have skin related diseases. Diabetes can cause pigmentation on the skin and dark marks and dark spots on the face. Some people also get such spots on their hands and feet.
5. Numbness of feet
The increased level of sugar in the body can also cause problems like numbness of the feet. Due to diabetes, there can be blockage in the veins of the feet. Due to which the blood circulation is affected and the feet become numb.
