The past of the West Indies cricket team has not been very good. In the year 2022, the West Indies could not qualify in the Super 12 for the T20 World Cup played in Australia and now the Caribbean team has failed to qualify for the upcoming ODI World Cup to be held in India. Recently, the qualifiers for the ODI World Cup 2023 were played in Zimbabwe, during which the West Indies team had to face defeat against Zimbabwe and the Netherlands team. This is the reason why now West Indies star all-rounder Andre Russell is heartbroken. In the bad phase of West Indies cricket, Russell has come forward and expressed his desire to play international cricket once again.
Andre Russell played his last international match for the West Indies in the year 2021 against Australia during the Abu Dhabi T20 World Cup. Russell has not played international cricket since then. Actually, the West Indies Cricket Board has failed to pay good amount to its players due to which the big players of the team prefer to play franchise cricket more than international cricket.
But in the meantime, now Andre Russell has put his desire to play international cricket again in front of the world after almost one and a half years. Russell spoke to the Jamaica Observer. He said, 'I am available for the West Indies team. I want to play the next World Cup (T20 World Cup 2024), so if they make me a part of the team, it will be special for me. I am ready to play a few series to keep myself available. I know how things work.
Let us tell you that Andre Russell wants to return to the field with the five-match T20 series against India to be played from August 3, but the final decision on this will be taken by the West Indies Cricket Board. This is because till now Andre Russell has not even talked to any board member on this issue. However, Russell has revealed that he recently spoke to head coach Darren Sammy and expressed his desire. In such a situation, it will be very interesting to see whether Andre Russell appears once again in the West Indies cricket jersey or not.
