Inflation is being discussed in the whole country only on tomatoes, but ginger has become more expensive than this. The rate of ginger has crossed Rs 300 per kg. In Karnataka, people have to spend up to Rs 400 for one kg of ginger. Due to this, the budget of the people who eat non-veg has deteriorated. The special thing is that Karnataka is the second largest ginger producing state in the country. Despite this, the prices are increasing day by day. At the same time, traders say that its prices may increase further in the coming days.
At present, ginger is being sold in the retail market at many places in Karnataka between Rs.300 to Rs.400 per kg. The Mysore district unit of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangh says that a 60 kg bag of ginger is being sold in the state for Rs 11,000. Whereas till last year its price used to be between 2000 to 3000 thousand rupees. This is the reason why due to the increase in the price in the wholesale market, the prices in the retail market have automatically increased manifold.
Inflation proving to be a boon for farmers
However, the increase in the prices of ginger is proving to be a boon for the farmers of Mysore and Malnad districts. Here farmers are earning big money by selling ginger. Because in both these districts, farmers cultivate ginger on a large scale. On the other hand, Hosur Kumar, a ginger producer, says that in the last decade, such a huge jump in the prices of ginger has never been recorded. This in itself is an unprecedented event.
These vegetables including tomatoes became expensive
The special thing is that along with ginger, many other vegetables have become expensive. Coriander, which was available at Rs 60 per kg, has now become Rs 200 per kg. At the same time, the price of tomato which was sold at Rs 20 to 30 per kg is now between Rs 150 to 250 per kg in the whole country. Similarly, green chillies are also being sold at Rs 200 per kg. This is the reason why incidents of theft of green vegetables along with ginger are also coming to the fore in the country. The special thing is that a farmer in Karnataka has lodged a report of theft of ginger worth Rs 1.8 lakh from his field. Apart from this, many other farmers have reported similar complaints of theft to the police.
