Good News for the LGBTQ Community! These two sexes will not be Unnatural

MBBS students will be taught that the 'two finger test' for virginity is unscientific, inhuman and discriminatory.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has made changes in six modules of forensic medicine and two modules of psychiatry to be taught to undergraduate medical students. The intention behind this is to make education more conducive to the LGBTQ+ community. This change includes the removal of sodomy and lesbian sex from unnatural sex offences. Through this, the difference between sexual desires such as voyeurism, exhibitionism, or masochism and mental disorders will be told.

At the same time, now MBBS students will be taught that the 'two finger test' for virginity is unscientific, inhuman and discriminatory. Under the changed module on the virginity test, students will be trained on how to tell the court that the two-finger test is unscientific, if the court orders it to be done. Not that they keep discussing about the medical and legal importance of hymen in class. The hymen test is still being taught in medical courses, even though the Supreme Court had rejected it years ago.

Changes in the meaning of words in the British era

Dr Sudhir Gupta, head of forensic medicine at AIIMS Delhi, said, "The meanings and modules of some words date back to the British era. These changes have been made keeping in mind today's law for medical education. This module also emphasizes on mutual consent for sexual relations. Also talks about the criminalization of adultery. The module will include training on sympathetic checking and interviews for preparation of medical and legal reports of victims of sexual offenses.

Changes made on the recommendation of expert committee

These changes are being made on the instructions of the Madras High Court. According to a communication received by the NMC, an expert committee was constituted by the Board of Undergraduate Medical Education (under NMC) to address issues related to the LGBTQIA+ community. The committee, after detailed deliberations and deliberations, recommended amendments to the merit-based medical education curriculum. Dr Aksa Shaikh, a medical doctor, educator and transgender activist, said, "NMC has made changes to the medical curriculum to make it less transphobic and queer."
