The conch was born along with Mata Lakshmi during the Samudra Manthan. In this case, the conch is considered the brother of Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that in the house where there is a conch, there is always abode of Goddess Lakshmi. The south-facing conch is considered as a deity. It is considered extremely auspicious to keep and play it in the house of worship. The conch should always be filled with water at the place of worship. By filling the conch with water and sprinkling it in the house, the negative energy of the house is eliminated. Ringing the conch in the morning and evening in the house also removes the impediments of ghosts.
