At the same time, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswamy declared movable assets worth more than Rs 47 lakh while filing nomination for the assembly elections to be held on April 6 from Edapadi constituency and said that there is no immovable property in his name. He also said that his wife's movable and immovable property is worth Rs 1,04,11,631 and assets under the Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) are Rs 50.21 lakh. He declared immovable assets worth Rs 1.78 crore in his wife's name and 2.10 crore rupees under the Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), including paternal property.

Kamal Haasan founded MNM in February 2018, but he did not contest any election. However, he fielded his candidates in Tamil Nadu in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and his party got more than 3.75 percent of the votes. Kamal Haasan is the chief ministerial candidate from a coalition of three parties led by the MNM. Currently outgoing MLA from Coimbatore South is Arjunanan of AIADMK Amman and has been fielded by his party this time from Coimbatore North.

AIADMK has left Coimbatore South for its ally BJP. Kamal Haasan will be pitted against BJP's Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan and Congress's Maurya S Jayakumar.
