This is a convenience

If you are traveling without a ticket in the train, then TT does not charge the entire fine from the place where the train started to the place where the train is delivered. However, there are certain rules that have to be followed in order to travel with a platform ticket.
Get a certificate from the guard
The first rule in the essential rule is that if you are traveling on a platform ticket, then you have to take a certificate from the guard. Certificates from guards can also be taken inside the train. The guard certificate platform recognizes the train travel on the ticket. This certificate can be taken from the guard, conductor or other railway staff, which has been notified by the Railways. The platform produces a guard certificate only on showing tickets. The guard certificate is a kind of provisional certificate which gives the opportunity to travel on a train with a platform ticket. This certificate is to be shown to the TTE in the train, which will create a valid ticket but will not charge a fine.
Travel by platform ticket but…
If you boarded the train with a platform ticket, you should first tell TTE. By doing this, you can avoid many kinds of action and fine. TTE then issues you a ticket to the destination. TTE will make your ticket and add a fine of Rs 250 to it. This penalty may be higher but if there is a platform ticket, then it will be added from that station to the destination. TTE will make a train ticket but cannot guarantee a seat or berth in the reserve class as it depends on the vacant position.
All these rules are for emergency. The traveler should never believe that it is better to travel on a platform ticket. If the TTE comes to know that the passenger is intentionally traveling on a platform ticket, then he can impose a hefty fine. This fine can be up to Rs 1260. There can also be a jail term for some time, which is fixed for a maximum period of 6 months. In some circumstances, fines and imprisonment may be imposed.
