The changes made by the central government to the rules related to DTH will affect millions of consumers in the country

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved amendments to the guidelines for providing direct to home (DTH) services.
Which can now be licensed for 20 years. In addition, the license fee will now be charged on a three-month basis instead of annually. This will also continue to generate revenue for the government and DTH service companies will not have to bear the burden at once. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi.

6 crore households have (DTH) connection

Let me tell you, there are about 180 million TVs in the country at the moment. Out of which 6 crore households have DTH connection. After the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters that he had cleared the way for 100 per cent FDI in DTH to research the guidelines.

Charge will be given on a quarterly basis

License fees will now be collected on a quarterly basis instead of the current annual basis. In addition a maximum of 5 per cent of the total permitted platform channels shown by DTH operators will be allowed to operate.

In addition, the Union Cabinet has approved the merger of the Film Festival Directorate, the National Film Archives of India and the National Film Development Corporation with the Children's Film Society into the Film Development Corporation of India.
