Rajinikanth on Monday held a meeting with his forum officials to discuss what it would be like to form a political party. He had a meeting with the district secretaries of Rajni Makkal Mandaram at Raghavendra Mandapam in Chennai. When Rajinikanth, along with representatives of Rajni Makkal Mandaram, insisted on contesting the state elections in 2021, the superstar told them to be patient and a decision must be taken on the issue.

He wrote that now is the time to change everything because if not now then never. According to Rajini's tweet, they will start the party in January and the announcement will be made on December 31.
Rajinikanth campaigned against the ruling party AIADMK in the 1996 elections. The party was chaired by Jayalalithaa. The election result was in favor of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Its head was Karunanidhi. Since then, fans have been waiting for Rajinikanth to enter politics. On 31 December 2017, Rajinikanth announced that he would announce his party as soon as possible and contest all the 234 constituencies in the 2021 Tamil Nadu general elections.
