Kolkata: Rajyapal Jadgadeep Dhankar expressed deep grief over the death of actor Soumitra Chatterjee. The Governor tweeted that I am deeply saddened by the demise of famous actor Soumitra Chatterjee. His place is difficult to fill.
Governor Dhankar said that he was the first Indian to be honored with the Orde des Arts et des Letters, France's biggest award for artists. He was also honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

It may be noted that after Saumitra Chatterjee was hospitalized for 40 days, doctors could not save her. On Sunday, he breathed his last at 12.15 pm at Bellevue Hospital.
For the last few days, the team of doctors was engaged in the last attempt to save them. Soumitra Chatterjee was placed on the life support system for the past several days. He was not responding in any way.
It is noteworthy that Soumitra Chatterjee was admitted to the hospital on 6 October after being hit by the corona virus. On 14 October, he was found to be corona negative. But during this time he was not discharged from the hospital due to other health problems. He was struggling with all health related problems.
