Death of Soumitra Chatterjee: Many big leaders including PM Modi expresses grief

 Many leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed grief over the demise of famous actor Soumitra Chatterjee. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that Shri Soumitra Chatterjee's death is a great loss for world cinema as well as the cultural life of West Bengal and the entire country. His death has been very sad. My condolences to family and fans. om Shanti!

On the death of Soumitra Chatterjee, President Ramnath Kovind expressed grief that Indian cinema had lost a veteran actor. He will be particularly remembered for his 'Aapu' trilogy and other memorable performances in Satyajit Ray's masterpieces. He contributed immensely to the craft of acting.

The legendary Bengali actor and Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner Saumitra Chatterjee was known for his association with Oscar-winning film director Satyajit Ray.

It is noteworthy that Soumitra Chatterjee died on Sunday at the Bellevue Hospital in the metropolis. He breathed his last at 12.15 pm. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached Bellevue Hospital as soon as the news of her death was received.
