Chhath Puja 2020: Know when is Nahay-Khay

 Diwali ends, people eagerly wait for the Mahaparava Chhath Puja of faith. Although Chhath Puja is celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, but now this festival is celebrated all over the country. This time due to the Corona period, the boom of Chhath Puja will fade a little. Let us know when the festival of Chhath Puja is starting.

Dates of Chhath Puja- 18 November 2020, Wednesday- Chaturthi (Nahai-Khay), 19 November 2020, Thursday- Panchami (Kharna), 20 November 2020, Friday- Shashthi (Argh to the setting sun), 21 November 2020, Saturday- Saptami (Argh to the rising sun) According to the Hindu calendar, Chhath Puja takes place on the Shashti Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. This year Chhath Puja is on Friday, 20 November. But it starts with Karthik Shukla Chaturthi.

Chhath Puja begins with Nahai-Khay. On the day of Chaturthi, there is bathing. This year Nahay-Khay is on Wednesday, 18 November. On the day of Nahay-Khay, sunrise will be at 06: 46 in the morning, while sunset is to be at 05: 26 in the evening.

What is Nahay-Khay - People who observe the fast of Chhath Puja take satvik food after bathing etc. on Nahay-Khay. After this, they observe the sixth Maiya fast. They perform Parana only after offering Arghya to the Sun in the morning. Taking a satvik meal after bathing before fasting is called Nahai-Khay.

On the day of Nahay-Khay, Vratis mainly use gourd vegetables and gram lentils in food. Rock salt is used for them in food. Those who keep Chhath Vrat, only after having their meal, other members of the family take food on Chaturthi. Till the fast, one has to sleep on the ground.

Nishjala fasting on Shashthi - On the day of Chhath Puja, Shashthi has to keep fasting Nirjala fast. This fast starts in the evening on the day of Kharna. On the day of Chhathi, on the sixth day, by offering Argh to the setting sun, one has to wait for the rising sun on the next day, Saptami.

The Nirjala fast lasting about 36 hours ends with the offering of Argh to the rising sun on Saptami. Those who observe the fast of Chhath Puja believe that the worship of Chhath Maiya is worshiped with full devotion.
