Violence towards women: Foreign Ministry calls UN official comment inappropriate

New Delhi:
The statement of the United Nations Resident Coordinator on the incidents of violence against women in India these days is described by the Ministry of External Affairs as inappropriate. The Ministry of External Affairs criticized the statement made by the UN official regarding violence against women in the country recently and said that the investigation process is going on and unnecessary statements from any external agency should be avoided. .

On Monday, the UN unit in India issued a statement regarding the cases of rape in Hathras and Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh. It said, the alleged rape cases in Hathras and Balrampur again remind that girls from disadvantaged social groups are at greater risk of gender-based violence.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Anurag Shrivastava told the United Nations Resident Coordinator in India, some inappropriate comments have been made about some recent cases of violence against women by the United Nations Resident Coordinator. The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in India should be aware.

The government has taken these matters very seriously. He further stated that since the investigation process is still going on, any unnecessary comments by an outside agency are avoided. The constitution guarantees equality for all citizens of India. As a democracy, we have a time-tested record of providing justice to all.

The United Nations in India said the incident of sexual harassment in Hathras, Balrampur sparked heavy outrage across the nation with a series of intense protests demanding punishment for the accused.
