New Delhi: During the Monsoon and Winter Session-2018 of the 16th Lok Sabha and Budget Session-2019, some MPs raised the issue of child rights in Parliament. Now the United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF reported on Thursday that nine Indian MPs have been honored for raising the voice of child rights in Parliament.
These nine MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been awarded the Parliamentarians Group for Children (PGC) Award. A statement issued by UNICEF stated that Arvind Sawant Maharashtra, Heena Gavit Maharashtra and Jugal Kishore Sharma have received the award for their work in Jammu and Kashmir while the 16th Lok Sabha 2018 Monsoon and Winter Session and 2019 Budget Session.
These are all Lok Sabha members, who were part of the 16th Lok Sabha and were also re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha. Jaskaur Meena Dausa, Rajasthan, Kuldeep Rai Sharma Andaman Nicobar and Sudhakar Shringre Maharashtra have received this award for raising the issue of child rights in the 17th Lok Sabha 2019 Monsoon and Winter Session and 2020 Budget Session.
The United Nations Children's Rights Organization said that Rajya Sabha members Jharna Das Baidya Tripura, KK Ragesh, Kerala and Sanjay Singh Delhi received the award in the Upper House between 2018 and 2020 for their overall performance and efforts. The functioning of MPs was evaluated on child health, child education, child nutrition and child rights in the country.
UNICEF said that the selection of MPs for the award has been done on the basis of their (MP's) functioning on issues related to health, education, nutrition, water and sanitation etc. of children and adolescent girls. Let us state that the Nation-General Assembly consisting of UNICEF was created on December 11, 1946. It works for the rights of children and women.
