Srinagar: The BJP has demanded the arrest of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti. Until the flag for Kashmir is returned, he will not respect the country's national flag, the mufti said recently. The BJP alleges that his remarks insulted the national flag.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has just been released from a 14-month house arrest. He has been under house arrest in Kashmir since the repeal of Article 370. Mehbooba Mufti was under house arrest for more than a year.
His daughter had to go to the Supreme Court to free him. The administration released the Mufti a few days ago. However, after being released from house arrest, the PDP leader started chanting against the Center again.
His party, the PDP, is in the Valley's anti-BJP alliance demanding the repeal of Article 370 in Kashmir. The opposition alliance is led by former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference supremo Farooq Abdullah. Meanwhile, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti slammed the BJP at its first press conference after its release from house arrest.
The BJP is trying to run the country based on the party's manifesto, Mehbooba alleged. "Unless the flag for Kashmir is returned, it will not be possible to honor the country's national flag," he said. If our flag is returned, we will lift it from the national flag again. "
His remarks angered the BJP leadership in Jammu and Kashmir. The Valley BJP leadership has been vocal in demanding the immediate arrest of the PDP supremo.
