PM Modi met the head of Afghanistan's Peace Council


New Delhi:
 PM Narendra Modi today met Abdullah Abdullah, the head of Afghanistan's Peace Council. During this, Dr. Abdullah gave information about peace talks between Afghan government and Taliban. Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava gave this information by tweeting.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the Peace Council of Afghanistan. He reiterated his long-term commitment to further strengthen India-Afghanistan relations. Srivastava also shared photographs related to the meeting of the two leaders. Dr. Abdullah tweeted after meeting PM Narendra Modi, India has full support for peace talks.

India will fully support the peace agreement in Afghanistan. India is in favor of an independent, democratic, sovereign and peaceful Afghanistan. A spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs tweeted on the meeting saying that PM Modi has confirmed the Prime Minister's long-term commitment to further deepen Indo-Afghan relations.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla, NSA Ajit Doval, Afghan Ambassador to Delhi Tahir Kadiri were present during the meeting. Dr. Abdullah Abdullah said that he had a very good conversation with India's NSA Ajit Doval. He discussed the ongoing negotiations on peace in Afghanistan in Doha.

India's security adviser has asked for the restoration of the peace process and any kind of consensus between the Afghan sides. He praised India's cooperation in development, stability and peace restoration in Afghanistan. Significantly, the Taliban and the Afghan government are in direct talks for the first time to end the 19-year war.

The talks are being held in Doha, Qatar's capital, for which the US took the initiative. Abdullah, who holds the number two position in Afghanistan after President Ashraf Ghani, arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday on a five-day visit.
