Paswan was to become DSP, became a minister six times: Journey from hut to bungalow in Delhi

Patna:
Lalu Prasad Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan and Nitish Kumar can be said to be the leaves of the same tree. One thing all three have in common is that all three of them started the struggle with poverty and eventually they reached the place that every leader dreams of. Ramvilas Paswan was born on 5 July 1946 in Shaharbanni, Khagadia. Ramvilas was the eldest of three children of father Jamun Paswan, followed by Pashupati Paras and Ramchandra Paswan. The father's financial situation was very poor and all three brothers grew up in poverty. However, Ramvilas was combative from an early age and he attended school in Shaharbanni and later did MA and LLB.

While Ramvilas was becoming DSP

He had prepared for UPSC and also passed it. Ramvilas was selected for the post of DSP. However, when he was selected, he came in contact with socialist leader Ram Sajivan and turned to politics. In 1969, he contested from Alauli Assembly on a United Socialist Party ticket and reached the Assembly. Paswan has not looked back since. Then in 1974, he became the general secretary of Lok Dal as a strong follower of Rajnarayan and JP. He was personally close to prominent leaders like Rajnarayan, Karpoori Thakur and Santyendra Narayan Sinha.

Ramvilas Paswan had two marriages

Ramvilas was married to Paswan twice. He married Princess Devi in 1960. He divorced Princess Devi in 1981 and remarried in 1983 to Reena Sharma. He has three daughters and a son from both his wives.

Active in the country's politics for five decades, six times a minister at the Center

Ram Vilas was involved in Bihar and national politics for five decades. Meanwhile, he also set a record of winning the Lok Sabha elections with the highest number of votes. There is another record in his name that perhaps no leader has been able to create. His record is that Ram Vilas was a minister in the cabinet of six prime ministers of the country. Ram Vilas knew ahead of time what was going to happen next in politics. That is why RJD supremo Lalu Yadav called him a meteorologist of politics. He has been a minister at the Center six times. He became Union Minister of Labor for the first time in 1989, Minister of Railways in 1996, Minister of Communications in 1999, Minister of Coal in 2002, Minister of Food and Consumer Defense in 2014 and Minister of the same Ministry in 2019.

Ram Vilas formed the Dalit Sena before the LJP

Ram Vilas was arrested in 1975 when a state of emergency was declared in the country. After his release from jail in 1977, he became a member of the Janata Party and reached Parliament for the first time from Hajipur. Ram Vilas, meanwhile, set a world record for the longest margin of victory. The LJP was formed a long time later but in 1983 it formed the Dalit Sena. While in politics, he made two decisions that went a long way. The first was to open a railway zonal office in Hajipur and to declare a holiday on the day of Ambedkar Jayanti at the Center.
