More women are victims of domestic violence than rape in the country: NCRB

New Delhi:
There is anger in the country these days about the Hathras incident. There is a demand from all corners of the country to hang the accused. In the country, cases of rape of girls and women keep coming up in the country. But let us tell you that in our country, women are not the victims of rape but most of all domestic violence.

The Crimes in India Year 2019 report of the NCRB, the National Crime Records Bureau, states that crimes against women have increased by 7.3 percent from 2018 to 2019. In the year 2019, 4,05,861 cases of crime were registered against women, while in 2018 there were 3,78,236 cases.

Similarly, the rate of crimes against one lakh women was 62.4 percent, which was 58.8 percent in 2018. In 2018, the total number of domestic violence related to atrocities of husband and relatives was one lakh four thousand 165, which increased to one lakh 26 thousand 575 in the year 2019. That is, there has been a 21 percent increase in domestic violence.

Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani said in the Lok Sabha on September 23 that the government received 13,410 complaints of atrocities against women during the lockdown from March to September 20. Domestic violence is everywhere. Ignore the victim's minor injury and burn cases.

Women are not in a position to complain against their husbands. On the other hand, according to the NCRB data, sexual harassment cases are second in the country. Eighty per cent of the four lakh recorded crimes were related to rape. As far as the crime rate per lakh female population is concerned, in 2019 it was 62.4 per cent while in 2018 it was only 58.8 per cent.
