IPL 2020: Kolkata Knight Riders Beat Rajasthan Royals By 37 Runs

In the 12th match of IPL2020, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Rajasthan Royals by 37 runs with the help of the brilliant performance of the bowlers. Against a score of 175, the Rajasthan batsmen were able to score only 137 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. This is Rajasthan's first defeat in the league. Winning their first two matches by scoring over 200, Rajasthan did not seem to score even 100 runs at a time today. Tom Karan's half-century narrowed the deficit. From Kolkata, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakraborty picked up 2-2 wickets.

Rajasthan started badly against a target of 175 runs. Captain Steve Smith (3) was out in the last ball of the second over and the team's ruckus began. Later, Sanju Samson (8), Robin Uthappa (2) and Ryan Parag (1) were dismissed cheaply. In the eighth over, the team lost half the team by 42 runs and the water turned again on the hopes of victory.

One more such innings was expected from Rahul Tewatia (14) who played a banging innings in the last match but it was not possible. Seventh-ranked Tom Curran hit 54 off 36 balls with three sixes and two fours but by then the victory had slipped into Rajasthan's hands. At the end of 20 overs, Rajasthan could only manage 137 runs for 9 wickets.

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field first. KKR openers Sunil Narayan (15) and Shubhaman Gill (47) got off to a good start. Both combined for 36 for the first wicket. Batting after Narayan's dismissal, Nitish Rana (22) shared a 46-run stand with Gill. Rahul Tewatia's wicket was quick when both the pitches were frozen and seemed to make a big score. Soon after, Joffra Archer fired Gill. KKR came under pressure as both the set players were out in the space of seven balls. Gill played a crucial innings of 47 off 34 balls with the help of 5 fours and 1 six.

Andre Russell, who was promoted to fourth in the batting order, hit three powerful sixes but could not make a big score and was dismissed for 24. Captain Dinesh Karthik (1) and Pat Cummins (12) were also dismissed cheaply as Kolkata could barely make 150 runs. However, Eoin Morgan led the team to an unbeaten 34 off 23 balls with a score of 174. For Rajasthan, Joffra Archer bowled tight and Gill and Karthik's crucial wickets were quick for 18 runs. Rahul Tewatia bowled only one over in which he took an important wicket of Nitish Rana.
