Delhi Capitals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs in the 16th match of IPL2020 after a heavy tussle. Kolkata struggled against Delhi's 229-run target and came out on top at one point but the match slipped out after Eoin Morgan's wicket in the 19th over. After 20 overs at the end, KKR could only manage 210 runs for 8 wickets. Nitish Rana scored 58, Eoin Morgan 44 and Rahul Tripathi 36 for KKR. Enrich Nortze took the most 3 wickets for Delhi.
With the help of Captain Shreyas Aiyar's aggressive 88 *, Prithvi Shaw's 66 off 41 balls and Rishabh Pant's explosive 38, the Delhi Capitals set a huge target of 229 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 16th match of IPL13. This is the highest score ever in this IPL season. With the exception of Andre Russell, all Kolkata bowlers have scored at an economy rate of over 10. Earlier this season, Rajasthan Royals had scored 226 runs.
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik won the toss and elected to bat first. This decision proved to be completely wrong for Kolkata and Delhi piled up runs. Shikhar Dhawan (26) and Prithvi Shaw (66) started the innings for Delhi with a partnership of 56 runs. Batting after Dhawan's dismissal, captain Shreyas Aiyar shared a 73-run stand with Shaw for the second wicket. The partnership was recorded in just 6.5 overs.
Rishabh Pant, who was batting after Prithvi's dismissal, also took advantage of favorable conditions to score an explosive 38 off 17 balls. Shreyas Aiyar, on the other hand, hit an unbeaten 88 off 37 balls. He could not complete the century as he could not get a strike in the final over. From Kolkata, Andre Russell got 2 wickets and Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Varun Chakraborty got one wicket each.
