Mumbai: The plight of Republic TV, which is embroiled in a fake TRP case, has increased. On Friday, Mumbai Police also registered a case against the editorial team of Republic TV. A case has been registered against the editorial team for spreading unrest among Mumbai police personnel.
NM Joshi Marg Police has registered an offense against the editorial team of the Republic under Section 3 (1) of the Police Act 1922 and other sections of the IPC. Prosecutor Sub-Inspector Shashikant Pawar has named Republic TV Deputy Editor Sagarika Mitra, Anchor Shivani Gupta, Deputy Editor Shavan Sen, Executive Editor Niranjan Narayanaswamy and other editorial staff in his complaint.
According to the complaint, the accused had staged a show on air which was spreading unrest among Mumbai police personnel. This has also brought the Mumbai Police into disrepute.
The case was registered after the show aired on October 22. The
FIR states that Shashikant Pawar was watching Republic TV on October 22 at 7 pm. At the same time, the show 'Sham Ki Sabse Buddy Khabar' flashed. On the show, anchor Shivani Gupta asked, 'Has the Mumbai Police revolted against Parambir (Commissioner of Police)? A senior official has given this information. The complaint alleges that Anchor accused Parambir of defaming the Mumbai Police and working for his personal interests.
Case filed under non-bailable clauses, provision of punishment up to 3 years
The plaintiff said that Shivani Gupta further said that Republic TV had evidence which proved that there was a mutiny against the Mumbai Police Commissioner. The section of the Police Act which has registered the case has a provision of 3 years imprisonment and is a non-bailable section.
