Defense Minister Rajnath Singh dedicates BRO road to the nation in Sikkim

New Delhi:
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has dedicated 19.85 km long alternate route of National Highway 310 to the nation. Earlier, the alternative route was severely damaged due to natural reasons which made it necessary as this road is considered to be very important for defense preparedness in East Sikkim and especially in Nathula sector.

Due to inclement weather, the event was conducted through video conferencing at the 33 Corps headquarters. During this time, the Defense Minister appreciated the efforts of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) for this achievement and also said that work of two lanes of border roads in Sikkim is going on.

The Defense Minister emphasized the government's efforts to progress infrastructure in remote areas of the country and also said that it is very important not only to strengthen defense preparedness but also for the socio-economic development of these areas. Reiterating the Union Government's resolve to give infrastructure development in line with the Prime Minister's 'Look at the North-Eastern States' policy, Shri Rajnath Singh said that the work of creating an alternative route has been done in the last two years.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister of Sikkim said that this new alternative route will not only promote tourism but also the socio-economic development of the state. He said that the state's economy gets the most support from tourism and the pace at which the BRO and the central government have constructed this road is commendable.

In the last few years, BRO has expanded its strength by adopting innovation in materials, equipment and manufacturing techniques. The new alternative route of Atal Tunnel, DS-DBO Road and National Highway 310 are examples of its high quality and speed. The Defense Minister also outlined the future construction work to be done by the BRO and expressed confidence that there will be vigorous progress in the self-reliant India Mission in the coming years.
