Ram Vilas Paswan, who had been ill for several days, underwent heart surgery late on Saturday. He had a heart surgery in a hospital in Delhi. Where he breathed his last on Thursday evening. Ram Vilas Paswan was elected MLA in 1969. Paswan was the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the Modi cabinet. Ram Vilas Paswan was an eight-time Lok Sabha MP and was currently a Rajya Sabha MP. He first reached the Lok Sabha in 1977 as a Janata Party candidate from Hajipur Lok Sabha seat.
It may be noted that Ram Vilas Paswan had two marriages. His relationship with his first wife Rajkumari Devi lasted from 1969 to 1981. In 1982, he married Reena Sharma. Paswan is survived by his wife with two daughters Usha and Asha Paswan and a son Chirag Paswan.
President Ram Nath Kovind expressed grief over the death of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. The President tweeted that the country had lost a visionary leader. He is counted among the most active and longest serving MPs. He was a public servant voicing the underprivileged sections and constantly struggling for the marginalized.
During the anti-Emergency movement, Paswan ji, who learned public service from veterans like Jayaprakash Narayan, emerged as a socialist. He had a deep association with the public and was always ready for public interest. My deepest condolences to his family and supporters.
