President of Maldives expresses gratitude to India on financial help

New Delhi:
Under the ongoing lockdown of the global epidemic corona virus, the economy of most countries has come down. Therefore, the lockdown was effected in India too, but even in such times, India did not back down from helping its neighboring friend Maldives. India has given a financial assistance of $ 250 million (Rs. 1840 crore) to Maldives to overcome the economic crisis.

The Indian Embassy in Mali, the capital of Maldives, provided this assistance. The decision was taken after Maldives President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for help to deal with the economic crisis caused by Corona. The Embassy of India said that the financial assistance grant was handed over in the program organized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives on Sunday.

Maldives President Ibrahim Mohammad Saleh thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this assistance. At the same time, PM Modi has appreciated the sentiments of the President of Maldives. The President of Maldives tweeted and said, whenever the Maldives needed a friend, India always rose to the occasion. My sincere thanks to PM Narendra Modi, the Government of India and the people of India for their neighborly spirit and generosity for their official handover of $ 250 million as financial assistance.

In response to this, PM Modi tweeted and appreciated the sentiments of the President of Maldives. PM Modi tweeted, 'I appreciate your sentiments, President Ibrahim Mohammad Saleh! As close friends and neighbors, India and Maldives will continue to support each other in our fight against the health and economic impact of Kovid-19. India took this decision of financial assistance after the telephonic conversation of Maldives President Abraham Muhammad Solih with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This subsidy is given through Treasury Bonds, which will have to be returned to Maldives over a period of ten years. Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Sudhir, Maldives Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid, SBI CEO Bharat Mishra were present on this occasion in Maldives. One third of Maldives revenue comes from tourism.

Therefore, due to Corona, there is a very bad effect on the economy. This help has been provided by India on favorable terms. India has earlier provided essential medicines to the Maldives. The Maldives, which is dependent on tourism, is completely unharmed during the Corona era. Regardless of the condition of the Maldives, China has recently given notice to pay an installment of ten million dollars for the repayment of its debt. Now Maldives can easily repay the installment of China's debt.
