Nepal's SIM, tower erection company to get Rs 40 lakh in these villages of Uttarakhand

Dehradun:
The government of Uttarakhand has come up with an offer to improve connectivity in the hinterland villages along the India-Nepal and India-China border. Now the government of Uttarakhand has decided to encourage companies to set up mobile towers in these hinterland villages. The company that builds towers in the villages here will get Rs 40 lakh. Because the government of Uttarakhand is emphasizing on increasing the mobile network in the hinterland villages.

The proposal was tabled by the Uttarakhand State Information Technology Department on Friday and has been approved by the Uttarakhand Cabinet. About 250 villages near the Chinese border and Nepal border do not have mobile network. Residents of these villages use Nepalese SIM cards to make phone calls and access the internet. Telecom companies avoid setting up mobile towers in these remote villages as the population is low and the revenue is low.

According to sources, the telecom companies had approached the state government to cover 60% of the cost of the project of erecting mobile towers in the villages or a one-time financial assistance was required for the project. It was then decided to provide financial assistance to telecom companies to set up mobile towers in villages.

Last month, the Department of Telecommunications said a number of projects were underway to make mobile network available in the country's remote villages. It is learned that this includes some villages of Gujarat.
