Mumbai: Former Navy officer accused, first beaten by Shiv Sainiks, then Mumbai police came home

Mumbai: A
former Navy officer who was subjected to violence by the Shiv Sena for forwarding a cartoon about Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on WhatsApp has said that everyone in the country has freedom of expression. The government should focus on big problems instead of small ones. He said Shiv Sainiks first attacked and then police were also sent home. Meanwhile, six accused arrested have also been granted bail.

"Everyone in the country has freedom of expression," said Madan Sharma, a retired naval officer who was a victim of violence in Mumbai's Samata Nagar. WhatsApp is a means to connect with everyone. The government needs to pay attention to where a message or cartoon comes from. I have shared a forwarded carton on WhatsApp group. After this some people from Shiv Sena called me and called me for a conversation at the gate. When I went to the gate there was no talk but I was beaten.

In an interview with a news channel, the aggrieved official confirmed Kangana Ranaut's statement, saying, "Such incidents have been happening in Mumbai for the last several days by the Shiv Sena." I have spent my life in the service of the country, not for any state. I was beaten by Shiva soldiers. After this the police were also sent to my house. The beating started with me without any conversation.

Madan Sharma, 65, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital, has categorically denied any affiliation with the BJP or any other organization. He is currently hospitalized and his condition is improving. His daughter Sheila Sharma had appealed for the imposition of presidential rule. He said Mumbai police came to the house after some Shiv Sena men attacked his father and were forcing him to take them away.

Six Shiv Sainiks arrested in connection with beating of former Navy officer have been granted bail. The main accused is Shiv Sena activist Kamlesh Kadam. Mumbai police arrested him overnight. However, he was released on bail on Saturday morning.
