New Delhi: Hindi Day is organized every year on 14th September across the country. This language, spoken in many countries, is one of the oldest languages, which is also known as the national language of India. It is said to be one of the fourth most spoken languages worldwide. About 77 percent of the people in the country speak, understand and study Hindi. It was decided 71 years ago that Hindi will be the official language of India.
History of Hindi Day: As everyone knows, our country became independent on 15 August 1947. Before this, the Constituent Assembly was formed to make the Constitution of India. At that time there were many languages in our country. Because of this, it was a big challenge to decide what became the official language. After long deliberations, on 14 September 1949, it was decided in the Constituent Assembly to make Hindi the official language.
ection 343 (1) of chapter 17 of the Constitution of India refers to the making of Hindi as the official language, "The official language of the Union shall be Hindi and the script Devanagari. The form of the numerals used for state purposes of the Union shall be international. Recalling this, 1953 to 14 September started celebrating Hindi Day. Non-Hindi speaking people were opposed to giving Hindi the status of official language. But in spite of all the protests, the Hindi language received the respect of the official language.
Objectives of celebrating Hindi Day: The main objective of celebrating Hindi Day is to make people aware of one day in a year that Hindi language cannot develop until they use Hindi in its entirety. On this day, it is recommended to use Hindi in place of English in all government offices. Apart from this, one who does good development work in Hindi throughout the year and uses Hindi well in his work is awarded by the award.
