MOSCOW: Amid ongoing tensions between India and China on the eastern Ladakh border, the foreign ministers of the two countries met on Thursday. Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. The two leaders attended a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Russia. Currently, tensions on the border between the two countries have risen and China has deployed its troops.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed the ongoing tensions. Asked before the meeting whether Jaishankar would discuss the situation in East Ladakh with Wang Yi, the ministry said the issue would be discussed. Earlier, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had also met Chinese Defense Minister Wei Feng but to no avail. Wei blamed India for the ongoing tensions on India and the border after the meeting.
Chinese media said this was the last chance. The
Chinese propaganda newspaper Global Times called the visit a last chance to resolve the dispute. The newspaper quoted the expert as saying that the meeting was important for ending tensions on the border and that an understanding could be reached with Russian mediation. However, it went on to say that if the meeting did not yield any result or the two countries did not reach an agreement, it would be a dangerous sign that India and China could not resolve the dispute peacefully.
Indian Army captures above Finger-4
What is special is that while the ministers of the two countries are visiting, the Indian Army has occupied a position that is even higher than Finger-4. On Monday evening, a Chinese soldier came very close to this and tried to pull the wire. The Indian troops then issued a stern warning and said that if they did not retreat, there would be serious consequences. Chinese troops fired into the air and tried to put pressure on Indian troops. However, they were forced to retreat after a stern warning from the Indian troops.
