Badaun (Uttar Pradesh): A man allegedly attacked his 4-month-pregnant wife in a drunken state after Pandit predicted a sixth daughter was born. Pandit had said, his sixth child will also be a girl.
The woman is undergoing treatment at a medical facility in Bareilly and her condition is stated to be critical. The woman is the mother of 5 minor daughters.
The incident took place in the Civil Lines area on Saturday.
According to police, Pannalal, a 43-year-old laborer, came home drunk and asked his wife to undergo an abortion. When Anita refused, Pannalal attacked her with a laugh.
People nearby reached the spot and rushed Anita to the district hospital.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar Verma, emergency medical officer at the district hospital said, a woman was brought to the hospital with multiple injuries to her stomach and chest. His injuries were serious and he was probably attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. We have referred him to a higher medical facility.
Anita's younger brother Ravi Kumar said, "My brother-in-law used to kill my sister often because of giving birth to 5 daughters." Even my parents tried to solve the problem, but no one thought that he would take such a cruel step.
SHO Sudhakar Pandey of Civil Lines Police Station said, "We have taken the accused into custody and he is being questioned."
The SHO said that they are waiting for a written complaint on behalf of the woman's family to register a case in this regard.
