Abu Dhabi, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Dinesh Karthik said on Tuesday that Mumbai Indians have world-class players and hence it is good for them to play against the four-time champions at the beginning of the 13th season of IPL.
Two-time former champions Kolkata Knight Riders will take on the opening match of the 13th season of the IPL against the defending champions Mumbai Indians at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium here on Wednesday. Mumbai were beaten by five wickets against Chennai Super Kings in their first match.
Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians have competed against each other 25 times in the history of the IPL, of which Kolkata has managed to win only six times.
Karthik said in a virtual press conference on the eve of the match, his team (Mumbai Indians) is a team of world class players, they are a strong lineup and they have IPL trophy. It is good that we are making our debut against Mumbai in the tournament. Every year is a different year and I am sure it will be a great match tomorrow.
Karthik hinted that Shubman Gill and Sunil Naren could open the innings for Kolkata.
He said, Shubman Gill is a quality player. I am sure he will exceed all expectations. Gill and Naren make a good opening combination.
During this, Eoin Morgan said that he is ready to play his role as a match finisher.
He said, I think the team that we have gives a lot of options both in batting and bowling. We have many versatile cricketers. I know that Andre Russell has played a finisher for KKR. Hopefully if I get the role of finisher, I will do that.
