Corona: Scientists have found a way to reuse the N95 mask

Houston
Corona forced health officers to re-use it because of the lack of safety equipment such as N95 masks, despite the risk of the virus, scientists found a solution to this problem. Researchers have found a new way to disinfect N95 masks by combining heat and moisture to reuse them.

However, researchers at the Department of Energy's SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Stanford University, and the University of Texas Medical Branch found that slowly heating the N95 mask to high relative humidity can kill the SARS-Cov-2 virus trapped inside the mask without compromising its quality.

"In fact, this is a problem, so if you can find a way to recycle masks sometimes, this problem will go away," said Steven Chu, a physicist at Stanford and senior author of the research. "You can imagine every doctor or nurse having their own personal collection of more than a dozen masks," Chu said. They will be able to disinfect their masks during the coffee break.

In the new research, Scott Weaver, a scientist in the medical department at the University of Texas, and Yi Cui and Wah Chiu, professors at Stanford, focused their attention on the combination of heat and moisture in an attempt to disinfect the mask. He heated his samples with a relative humidity of up to 100 percent at a temperature of 25 to 95 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes. The results of this research were published in the ACS Nano Journal on 25 September.
