New Delhi: So far, 1910 crore rupees Nirbhaya Fund has been used to protect women in the country. This information has been given by the Central Government in response to a question in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The Nirbhaya Fund was established by the Central Government in 2013 after the Nirbhaya gang rape in 2012 in Delhi. Under the fund, states are motivated to work towards women safety by giving financial assistance.
In fact, Lok Sabha MP from Kerala Anto Antony had asked in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday in an unstarred question whether the government is providing financial assistance to the states to improve the safety of women and children under the Nirbhaya scheme. How much money was used in the last five years? While answering this question in writing on Wednesday, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani said that the proposals received under the Nirbhaya Fund are examined by an Empowered Committee of Officers. The committee makes recommendations. Union Minister Smriti Irani said that since the inception of the Nirbhaya Fund, according to various ministries, Rs 1910 crore has been utilized so far.
The Union Minister also informed all the states about the Nirbhaya Fund received during the last few years. He informed that Delhi was released 74.23 crore of Nirbhaya Fund in 2018-19 and Rs 291.32 crore in 2019-20. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh got 93.96 crore in 2018-19 and 105.50 crore in 2019-20. Gujarat received 58.07 and 68.95 crores in the last two years. Talking about the last five years, 26.49 crores were released in 2015-16, 460.42 crores in 2016-17, 298.04 crores in 2017-18, 1003.19 in 2018-19 and 1144.57 crores in 2020-21.
